Our Strategy

Upplandsbygd's strategy for 2023–2027 contributes to the sustainable development of rural areas within our area through locally led development. The strategy guides our operations and which projects receive money from us. The strategy was developed in 2021 and private, non-profit and public actors from all our municipalities participated in the work.

The Upplandsbygd of the Future

Support from Upplandsbygd locally led development will go to initiatives that contribute to implementing our local development strategy. The strategy can be described as a puzzle, where the projects constitute the pieces. In the strategy you will find our vision, our goals and areas of focus and criteria for assessing project applications.

The basic idea of locally led development is that those who live or work in rural areas are the ones who know their place best and know how it should be developed. Locally led development works based on the fundamental principles of sustainable development, equality between women and men, equal treatment and non-discrimination.

Vibrant and inclusive villages.

New and sustainable solutions for local development.

Sustainable transition

Projects funded by Upplandsbygd contribute to a sustainable future – socially, ecologically and economically. With the sustainability spider, we help you on your way!

The Sustainability Spider

Sustainable development for us is about working with all three dimensions: social, ecological and economic. Within each dimension, we have selected three areas that together form the web of the sustainability spider.

To build a strong spider web, the project should have as positive an impact as possible in all areas. If a project negatively impacts one of the nine areas, we take action to improve. The analysis takes into account the impact of the effort locally and globally, throughout its entire life cycle.

Our areas of focus

At Upplandsbygd you can apply for support within one of our areas of focus to: contribute to one or more of our goals. The focus areas constitute the tools for achieving the strategy's goals.

Local economy and sustainable entrepreneurship

In order for entrepreneurs in companies and associations to be able to lead local sustainable solutions and inclusive communities, support for associations, business development for entrepreneurs, skills development and networking are needed, for example.

Promoting rural development and strengthening community

To achieve the goal of inclusive and vibrant rural areas, we need initiatives that strengthen the local community and participation in the development of the area – for everyone, regardless of background.

Richer water and landscape

To develop sustainable solutions, we need new business opportunities that are based on the sustainable use and utilization of our waters, soils and forests. In this way, we make use of untapped resources, contribute to a rich flora and fauna and reduce climate impact.

Pilot study

Conducting a feasibility study can be a good way to investigate the conditions for a larger project or venture.

This could, for example, involve:

  • Investigate initiatives that can contribute to meeting the strategy's goals.
  • Project ideas that need to be investigated before becoming a full-scale project and that fit within one of the areas of focus above.
