About us

Upplandsbygd lokalled udsvaret is a non-profit organization. We support local sustainability projects in the rural areas of our municipalities.

Our focus

A driving force for sustainable transformation

We know that there are many changemakers, entrepreneurs and local enthusiasts who are committed to positive social development in our area. We support and develop your initiatives, finance local development projects and build networks and knowledge. Together we have the power to create a sustainable transition through locally led development!

Our area

5 municipalities in Uppsala and Stockholm counties

Our area consists of the municipalities of Knivsta, Sigtuna, Uppsala, Vallentuna and Östhammar. The majority of the benefits from projects we support will go to places and people outside the larger urban areas (Uppsala, Märsta and Vallentuna).

Our association

Upplandsbygd locally led development

Upplandsbygd locally led development is a non-profit association where the office, board and members together form a local action group, within the leader world called LAG.

Our operations are financed by funds from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, the Swedish state and our member municipalities.

Our partnership

Members, networks and municipal contacts

Anyone who lives or works in the area can become a member of the association or join our network.

We also meet regularly with a municipal group with at least one official from each municipality working on rural development. It is a chance for us to coordinate and strengthen our work.

The Leader Method

What is a leader?

We use the Leader method, which is a method for rural development that is widespread in the EU. The method is based on strengthening non-profit forces and ensuring that those who live and work in a place know what needs to be done to develop it.

Our board

Locally made decisions

Our board consists of a total of 18 members who are evenly distributed from the public, non-profit and private sectors and from all five of our municipalities. The distribution is important to us because the leader method is based on collaboration.

The board is responsible for ensuring that we work based on our development strategy and decides which projects receive our support.
