We at Upplandsbygd are pleased to announce that Bobrunna Gård's LEADER project ”Measures for biodiversity and learning” and ”Planning a public forest garden” is nearing its end with great progress.
Elin Boström, project manager for these initiatives, has shared the successes achieved in the first mentioned project, ”Measures for biodiversity and learning”. Bobrunna Gård's efforts aim to be a role model and spread knowledge about the importance of preserving and promoting biodiversity. The project includes the creation of demonstration sites with smaller measures that can be implemented on private plots, schoolyards or courtyards along the trail, making the knowledge more accessible and applicable to a wider audience. Soon this "biodiversity trail" will be ready and open to the public to visit. As part of the project, Elin has also visited the Pinneman preschool in Vattholma. There, the children had the opportunity to get to know the nests and their inhabitants, such as barn owls, blue tits, starlings and bats. The children's curiosity was aroused when they were allowed to tap the nests and learn about the sounds and habits of the birds. During the visit, the children discussed why birds lay eggs and the need to build nests to give the birds a home when old trees disappear. There was also time to talk about insects and their important role in nature. The children's enthusiasm was palpable as they played with the nest boxes and drew drawings inspired by the project. The next step is for the children to make nest boxes themselves and put them up at the preschool and around the community. See pictures at the bottom of the post!
As part of the second project ”Planning a public forest garden” we have exciting news to share. The LEADER project has been selected to participate in another project through the EU program Communities for Climate, which is run by AEIDL – European Association for Innovation in Local Development. The forest garden project in Skyttorp has been designated as a beacon project within the EU. This means that the project will serve as an example for others to follow. They will also receive support from a Swedish expert and the opportunity to participate in a study visit to further develop our knowledge and network. We look forward to continuing to follow Bobrunna gårds & company's fantastic work and the positive effects her project has on our nature and our communities. Bobrunna Gård invites you to a free event on August 17th to inaugurate a trail and the ”Biodiversity Trail” that was built during the year. To celebrate their success, they are inviting the public to a mini-festival with a varied program that includes author readings, art exhibitions and music. Visitors can also watch the chickens and ducks, stroll in the garden and walk the ”Biodiversity Trail” where you can see examples of how we can increase biodiversity – an extra fun activity for children!
