”Everyone was very satisfied with how well and fun the haymaking event turned out. It is clear that the local heritage association wants to do it again next summer,” says Åsa, one of the project leaders.
About 150 people participated in the event on July 26. Söderön's local heritage association, with project leaders Åsa and Jan at the forefront, had created a content-rich program. Visitors got to take part in a guided tour about the diversity of the meadows, a demonstration of haymaking and hay harvesting with horses, folk music, and a scythe course. 30 people learned how to mow with a scythe and together built five traditional hay racks on site. Several of the participants want to continue learning more about scythe mowing.
On Söderön's local heritage association's website you can read more and find more pictures (the photos come from there). The hope is that this can become an annual recurring event. It is clear that this year's haymaking event allowed both summer guests and residents to connect with Spökbacken's valuable nature and learn how they can take care of it together.
