Milk and Honey Garden –display garden with
knowledge walk
The project is part of the umbrella project Local Economy and Sustainable Entrepreneurship.
The villa garden in Gimo will become a physical source of knowledge, similar tot an edible jungle. The hope is to insencourage others to start farming edible plants in their own garden and thereby increase the proportion of locally produced food.
About the project
Milk and Honey refers to a biblical expression that stands for fertility, abundance, wealth and "sweet days", which the hope is that the display garden will be an example of.
Johanna wants to create a demonstration garden where a walk can contribute to knowledge and ideas about how an ordinary private garden can become a food-producing oasis filled with biodiversity. This is done with the help of knowledge from permaculture and forest gardens. She wants to use the resources that are available through permaculture and add new resources to the garden through cyclical functions.
The project contributes to establishing a walking path through the garden. Along the way, knowledge is shared about cultivation methods, perennial vegetables, berry bushes and fruit trees that are not common in private gardens. Knowledge transfer will primarily take place through signage and a website. But also through physical meetings in collaboration with the Church of Sweden.
The goal is a physical source of knowledge that encourages more people to dare to grow more edibles in their home gardens. Which in the long term can contribute to healthier eating habits, fewer transports, reduced emissions, increased biodiversity, supply of natural and economic resources. It is through increased knowledge that we gain greater respect for the food we eat and the planet we live on.
