Colonial lots in Österbybruk

During the summer of 2018, the Cultivation Project in Österbybruk began. The initiator was the church congregation, with support from entrepreneurs and the municipality of Östhammar. During the fall of 2018, the organic cultivation area was expanded by 300 square meters. In a short time, the area has become a popular gathering place for both existing and new Swedes. Here, there are women and men, children and adults in a wonderful community.

With this project, they want to develop the non-profit project by, among other things, purchasing a water pump to start up irrigation from the adjacent Oppdammen. The water can then be delivered by self-pressure "siphon", which means that no electricity is needed to supply the crops with water. There is also a need to purchase hose and couplings as well as fences that protect the crops from wildlife damage. They also want to invest in a smaller greenhouse with solar panels in order to extend the growing season and be able to grow a greater diversity of different foods. Furthermore, they also want to start workshops that can provide more knowledge in cultivation and plant breeding as well as cooking with a focus on sustainability and diversity.
