The future compass outdoors

The Future Compass is an annual theme for all eighth graders in Östhammar Municipality. Now the concept is being developed further through a collaboration between the municipality and the Upplandsstiftelsen, which will contribute new perspectives in outdoor activities, public health and biodiversity. These are areas that were previously missing from the Future Compass.

“Future Compass Outdoors” invites students to experience-based learning in nature. The activities are carried out at Gimo Damm, and here students learn about ecosystem services, species knowledge and participate in practical efforts that strengthen natural values. Study visits to Sandvik Coromant are also part of the program.

The Upplands Foundation's outdoor educators plan and implement the activities in collaboration with the school staff. The goal is to create a recurring concept that the school can continue on its own, with continued support from the foundation.

The students will have the opportunity for commitment and participation, which will ultimately strengthen their ability to act in the local transition. The project will thus be an important addition to Framtidkompassen's long-term work with sustainable development in the municipality of Östhammar.
