Preserve the apple orchard of Noor Manor

The project is part of the umbrella project Natural values in Upplandsbygd

The apple orchard of Noors Säteris is an important cultural and historical environment where the old gnarled trees create a good environment with a rich biodiversity. In order to preserve the environment for the future, the project will begin pruning and caring for the trees. A variety inventory will also be made. To create awareness of both the area and the trees, information material will be set up in the area and trees will be marked with the variety name. Together with the Nature School in Knivsta, gatherings for the public will be organized.

About the project

The project is part of the umbrella project Natural values in Upplandsbygd

Noor's apple orchard in Knivsta is a historic site dating back to the 17th century, which is today preserved by Charlottenlunds Musteri in collaboration with the landowner. With approximately 100 remaining fruit trees, the apple orchard needs care and pruning to ensure its future. The project also aims to graft new trees of the old varieties to recreate and preserve the character of the apple orchard.

Since 2007, members of the Swedish Pomological Society have been inventorying the apple varieties in the apple orchard, but work remains to ensure the preservation of all varieties, especially the local variety Noor's glass apple. To increase public interest and respect for the apple orchard, information materials and information signs are planned, as well as organized pomological walks aimed at different target groups.

Through collaboration with associations and municipal organizations such as Friluftsfrämjandet and Naturskolan, the project will offer education and recreation in Noor's apple orchard, where visitors can learn about biodiversity and the biology of fruit trees. This will help to raise the status of the apple orchard and promote its preservation for the future.

We have made an inspiring visit to the apple orchard, which we hope you will want to read more about. here!
