”"AR6 Synthesis report" is a synthesis of the sixth assessment report, which itself contains several different interim reports and special reports that have been published from 2018 to the present.
The Synthesis Report underlines that climate change is a threat to the health of people and the planet. Limiting human-caused climate change requires humanity to reach net zero emissions by 2050–2070. The challenge has grown even greater as emissions have continued to rise and the actions taken so far are not sufficient. The report says with great certainty that the changes we make in this decade will have an impact now and for thousands of years to come. The window is now to act on the climate crisis and secure a sustainable future for us to live in.
So what role can leaders play in the climate transition?
Leader sounds like the English word "leader", but is actually an abbreviation of a French phrase that means something like Coordinated activities for rural economic development. But economic development alone is not enough to handle the crises we are facing. We need to transition to sustainable development, within the limits of the planet. We at Upplandsbygd believe that leaders can play an important role. We are not responsible for the large infrastructure investments, but we have an opportunity to mobilize local people in rural areas and support a variety of transition projects and sustainability experiments. Through strategic collaboration with municipalities and regions, successful projects can be promoted and spread.
When we work together for a good and sustainable life for ourselves and our grandchildren, we can create community and hope for the future.
