Gräsö Basket

Grävlings naturprodukter through Janne and Martina Törnqvist on Gräsö outside Östhammar was granted project support to develop a sustainable wood basket. Working name
is the "Gräsö basket" Grävlings Naturprodukter has a vision of conservation, sustainable living and recycling. The project uses "residue products" that are environmentally friendly in themselves. One strength is the interaction with other local actors.

On Gräsö, many people use wood to heat their fires, and Grävlings Naturprodukter has received requests for a sturdy firewood basket. Through their
tree felling service, they get free material locally that can be sawn up on site, which drastically reduces the need for purchasing and transportation. When they then extract the chips and manufacture
baskets in an open workshop in the store, we give the product added value. The ideal is that the tree felling customer can buy back a wood basket made from his own tree. The project is applying for a mobile sawmill to be able to saw the wood for the baskets on site and reduce transport. When the project is completed, we will have a functioning basket workshop open to the public. Our idea is to have
and have a sustainable and resilient manufacturing that can handle both temporary and longer power shortages/power outages/power rationing. We must also be able to quickly adjust
production according to how society changes.

Motivation of the Board:

The project uses ”residue products” that are environmentally friendly in themselves. They already have a stable business and through the ”Gräsö basket” the company now has another leg to stand on. One strength is the interaction with other local actors
