Nature conservation at Toftesta holme

The project is part of the umbrella project Young Planet Keeper.

In this project, the young planet caretakers Johanna Nilsson and Elis Bergman want to strengthen the natural values at Toftesta holme and the area around Lilla Garns nature park. By combining several conservation efforts, they aim to increase biodiversity while also creating richer nature experiences for visitors.

About the project

A central part of the work is to plan and establish a breeding pond that can serve as a habitat for amphibians. The project also includes work with the Roslagsleden, where part of the existing route is decommissioned and replaced with a new alignment past Lilla Garns nature park. In this way, accessibility and the experience for hikers are improved, while taking into account the area's natural values. Elis and Johanna will also survey some species at both Roslagsleden and Toftesta holme.

To make the site's values more visible, they will also develop information signs with texts about the islet. The signs are aimed at the public and contribute to increased understanding of nature and the efforts being made in the area.

The work is carried out in collaboration with both Vallentuna municipality and Lilla Garn, where the project also becomes an opportunity for learning and experience exchange. Through practical nature conservation work and joint efforts, knowledge is built that can also be used in future projects.

In the long term, the project contributes to a more varied and robust landscape, where more species can thrive and where people can engage with nature in an accessible and meaningful way.
