The project is part of the umbrella project Local Economy and Sustainable Entrepreneurship.
The project aims to preserve and disseminate unique acoustic environments in five locally anchored church buildings within the Sigtuna and Knivsta pastorates. By recording so-called acoustic impulse responses (IR files) from actual locations, the churches' acoustics can be captured and digitally preserved for the future.
About the project
The project aims to preserve and disseminate unique acoustic environments in five locally anchored church buildings within the Sigtuna and Knivsta pastorates. By recording so-called acoustic impulse responses (IR files) from actual locations, the churches' acoustics can be captured and digitally preserved for the future.
An IR file can then be used in music production, film and game development to recreate the feeling that the sound is being played in these churches, this is called Convlution Reverb. A sound imprint of the actual acoustics of the place.
The aim is partly to contribute to cultural heritage and local identity, where we believe that acoustics are an intangible cultural heritage that we currently have the technology to capture and preserve, but is still rarely used. The project is also carried out to develop a site-specific product that is made available for international sales to musicians, filmmakers and game developers all over the world.
Project goals
To create a digital collection of impulse responses from five churches in Sigtuna and Knivsta with accompanying 360-degree photographs. The files will be offered free of charge to each congregation for use and archiving. The files will then be launched on a webshop for sale. This will create a new market for music and sound production with a strong connection to our Swedish cultural heritage and these places.
