Measures against invasive species: communication and control

With a focus on Gräsö Gård nature reserve and Öregrund, she wants to both strengthen biodiversity and make it easier for more people to understand how they can contribute themselves.

At the parking lot of the nature reserve, the flower lupine has established itself, with the risk of spreading further into the area. Therefore, Sofia will inventory the area, map any spread, and implement measures to stop it in time. By combating the lupines before they spread further, she wants to protect the species that are already present in the reserve and preserve the area's ecological values.

An important part of the project is also to reach out with clear and accessible information to residents and visitors. Therefore, she will produce fact sheets about common invasive species and contribute to developing information on the municipality's and Upplandsstiftelsen's platforms.

At Öregrund's recycling station, she particularly highlights the need for information on how invasive plants should be handled as waste. Through signs and informational materials, she wants to make it easier for both staff and visitors to do the right thing, thereby reducing the risk of further spread.

The project is carried out in close collaboration with Östhammar municipality and Upplandsstiftelsen.

In the long term, the project contributes to increased knowledge and a more preventive approach to invasive species. By both implementing concrete measures and making information more accessible, better conditions are created to protect the nature reserve and strengthen biodiversity in the area.
