Do you want to learn about emergency farming and grow more – yourself or with others?
By preparedness farming, we mean farming that provides good and nutritious food and is not dependent on external purchases – farming that simply makes us better prepared. The purpose of this meeting is to learn about how to plan your contingency farming for the next season (activities to prepare for the season start already this fall). During the meeting we will discuss issues such as:
- What should we grow and how?
- How do we get a better harvest?
- How can we use local resources if we cannot buy seeds, soil and fertilizer?
- How can we spread the risks – dare to try new things and experiment, but also be strategic?
- How can we collaborate on cultivation in a good way?
The meeting is aimed at those of you who already grow or want to grow, Upplandsbygd's network and associations with recreational growers. TIP! Bring one or more interested neighbors and you can plan the growing season together.
Children are welcome! We have some crafts and fruit for the kids. Everyone register and dinner will be arranged.
Time: Tuesday, November 11, 5:00 PM–9:00 PM.
Place: Storvreta parish hall, Ärentunavägen 3, 743 40 Storvreta. Travel, for example, from Uppsala to Storvreta by train at 16.41–16.51, see UL.se.
Food: We offer dinner to those of you who register by October 28th.
Registration: The meeting is fully booked, but please send an email to my.sellberg@upplandsbygd.se if you would like to be on the reserve list.
Program:
- 5 p.m.: Welcome and dinner with conversations around the table about cultivation
- 6 p.m.: Introduction to Food and Emergency Preparedness, based on the new report on the role of recreational farming for Swedish food security and the Vinnova platform ”Food for everyone – close and together”.
- 6:15 PM: Lecture and questions with Marek Rolenec
- 7:15 p.m.: Break (those who need to walk can deviate here)
- 7:30 PM: Workshop – start planning your cultivation for next season and share with each other in groups.
- 8:30 p.m.: Seed and information sharing – specializations, organizations you can join, etc.
- 9pm at the latest – END!
Marek Rolenec is a grower and self-employed farmer and works for FOBO, the Swedish Association of Organic and Biological Cultivation, and FOR, the Swedish National Organization for Recreational Cultivation.
This meeting is organized by Upplandsbygd within The We Planet Caretakers project together with Coompanion Roslagen & Norrort, FOBO Association of Organic-Biological Cultivation, FOR National Organization of Leisure Cultivation, Skyttorps forest garden association and the Civil Defense Association.
