International meeting about smart villages

In mid-September, we will be visited by our partners from Latvia and Lithuania to learn from each other how we develop local smart strategies.

As we have mentioned in a previous news post Upplandsbygd is pleased to lead an international cooperation project called Resilient Rural Areas. The project is carried out in close collaboration between three leader areas in Sweden, Lithuania, and Latvia.

In mid-September, villages from Uppland, Latvia, and Lithuania will meet to share experiences and development ideas. The focus is on local development power, community, and collaboration. Through stronger networks, meeting places, and cooperation between associations, businesses, and residents, we want to create increased participation and long-term sustainable solutions. The villages work with different focuses based on their local conditions.

In Sweden, it is about strengthening local preparedness, food production, and meeting places for community. In Latvia, the rural areas work with local services, participation, and collaboration. In Lithuania, ideas are being developed around local food production, social innovation, services, sustainable transport, and nature tourism. All participating rural areas are exploring new ways to utilize local resources and create attractive and viable rural areas. The meeting will also be an opportunity to discuss how digitalization and AI can be tools in local development work – but above all, it is about people, engagement, and collaboration. Together we learn from each other, share ideas, and build the vibrant rural areas of the future.

This project is funded by the Swedish Institute.
