Inventory of oaks in Uppland
The project is part of the umbrella project Young Planet Caretaker.
In this project, project leader Alex Bujis wants to contribute to strengthening the protection of particularly valuable trees in Uppsala County. By inventorying large trees in Hågadalen-Nåsten and in Hallkved near Länna, he aims to create a better picture of where these trees are located and what is needed for them to be preserved over time.
About the project
Large trees are important habitats for many species and are covered by special action programs. For these to be followed, knowledge about the trees' location and condition is required. Alex will therefore map the trees during the summer, document their coordinates, and note if there is a need for actions that can strengthen their living conditions.
As part of the project, he is also involved in the work to reduce the spread of the invasive species giant balsam at Lake Vällen. By contributing to the control of the species, he aims to strengthen the conditions for local biodiversity.
The work is carried out in close connection with local actors, where the results will serve as a basis for continued conservation work by, among others, Upplandsstiftelsen and Uppsala Municipality.
The project will contribute to a better overview of valuable natural environments and create conditions for more targeted efforts.
